Why I Don’t Believe in Resolutions!

New Years Resolutions - Impossible becoming possible

It is that time of year again…the time where 2015 comes to an end and 2016 promises new and exciting adventures. I like to step back to reflect on the last year and start considering where I want to go next. I like to consider the things that I are working in my life and take time to be grateful for the many wonderful people, opportunities and experiences – large and small. Reflection, gratitude and hope.

I’m pumped about 2016 as it marks the start of new and exciting adventures for me. The things that are most important to me in 2016 are:

  • Helping as many people as I can to accept themselves, see the possibilities/opportunities in their lives and achieve their dreams!
  • Maintaining balance and peace in my life.
    • Get my bottom to yoga at least once per week
    • Eat in a way that feels good to me
    • Make time to play, laugh and express my creativity through my jewelry creations (cheekygopher.ca) and other projects that bring me happiness and satisfaction.
  • Nurturing relationships with the people who are most important to me.
  • Giving back to causes that are important to me.
    • Mental Health Awareness
    • Stollery
    • Hope Mission, Mustard Seed, Bissell Centre

Creating a wonderful 2016I have never believed in New Year’s resolutions and I still don’t…but what I do believe in is consistently creating meaningful goals for myself, re-assessing, adjusting if needed and making new goals. So many times, we create New Year’s resolutions, start out strong and committed…and then slowly lose interest and motivation within a month or two. Does this mean that you shouldn’t even bother? Hell no! This may mean that you are setting the wrong goal for you or need some help to keep you motivated as you move forward and see results!

I don’t only review my goals and progress towards them at the New Year – this is a practice that I do on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis. Any promises that I make to myself must be reasonable, realistic, achievable and meaningful to me. If I want to make change in my life, I do it…I don’t wait for Jan 1 to make this happen, but I do reset my direction and my intentions each new year.

If it is early January and you are ready to make some changes in your life, then Go, Go, Go! J

Are there things that you want to achieve in 2016?

If you would like to make some changes, but aren’t certain about how to even start creating a goal for yourself, check out my article on planning and goal setting which steps you through this process.
